My first game console was a Super Nintendo. It's one of the two best gifts I've ever gotten, the other being a bike some years later, and both for similar reasons. I knew, I just knew I was never getting either of those things. They weren't particularly safe, healthy, educational, beneficial. Sure, you could argue for the bike, but I grew up out in the country. The one time in my life we needed to call police, we had to call the Sheriff's deputies out, and they couldn't find us after 45 minutes. We had a volunteer fire station three or four miles away, but I'm not sure there were people actively stationed there, and the two fire trucks they had weren't too many years away from being museum exhibits. (My sincerest apologies to any of the fine volunteers who may happen to be reading this! We appreciate your service... you're all that stand between us and oblivion out there!) So, a lone kid on a bike ages away from any sort of medical support... let's just say I asked for a bike for a long time and with no real expectation of ever getting one. But I digress.
